Today in our section "Jubailar," we will tell the story of Irina Volkova and Zamir Surakhmatov.
Irina, born in 1999 in Vologda, married Kyrgyz citizen Zamir five years ago.
They currently live in the suburbs of Bishkek.
“I am a hotel management graduate. We met in Russia when Zamir went there to earn money. I was taking my son to kindergarten by bus, and he worked as a driver. At first, we just exchanged glances, and then he decided to ask for my name, and that’s how our communication began,” Irina shared her memories.
Zamir, born in 1982, was persistent in his feelings. “At first, I didn’t think of him as a future husband; I believed our communication would be short-lived. But he convinced me to go to Kyrgyzstan. It was scary, but I thought, ‘If not now, then when?’ – and I bought a one-way ticket. Upon arrival, we immediately held the ‘nike’ ceremony, and I converted to Islam,” Irina added.
Although an official wedding has not yet taken place, the newlyweds plan to have one in the future.
“I am gradually learning Kyrgyz customs. I especially remember the ‘tushoo toy,’ to which we were invited by my husband’s younger brother. It was surprising for me that guests can come without an invitation at any time. We have a small farm — sheep, horses, and cows. I work as a nurse in a government institution, while Zamir is engaged in leather craft — making bridles and saddles to order,” she explains.
Irina has a 7-year-old son from her first marriage, and Zamir has a daughter living with her mother. The couple does not have any children together yet.
“We have many plans for the future — to build a house, have children, and simply live happily together,” concluded Volkova.
