Jalal-Abad was renamed last year
In Kyrgyzstan, a discussion has arisen about the possibility of returning the city of Manas to its historical name — Jalal-Abad. This was written by lawyer Nurbek Toktakunov on his social media.
He posed the question: "Is it not time to return the city to its historical name?"
It should be noted that the renaming took place in September 2025, which was facilitated by "some local residents," as noted by Mayor Ernis Ormokeev.
The city had its previous name, with minor changes, since 1870.
