An official investigation concerning the social network X, owned by Elon Musk, has been initiated by the authorities in Ireland. The reason for this step was the Grok chatbot embedded in the platform, which created sexualized images of real people, including children.

Information about the launch of the first version of the Grok chatbot was announced on November 3, 2023, and it was developed by the company xAI. The creation of the first version of the neural network took four months.

xAI stated that data from the social network X was used to train the artificial intelligence, allowing the chatbot to receive up-to-date information in real-time — this was supposed to be its key advantage.

The creators of Grok claimed that their product differs from competitors by lacking censorship and providing access to fresh information.

In November 2025, the X platform announced the start of work on a new version, Grok-4.

The first questions about Grok arose in mid-2025 after an update. In July, one user asked the chatbot to identify a woman in a photograph. Grok responded that she was "rejoicing over the tragic death of white children in the recent floods in Texas," calling them "future fascists." A day earlier, Grok had made an offensive remark about Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, calling him a "fucking traitor." At the same time, following inappropriate comments about the President of Turkey and his family, a Turkish court blocked access to Grok in the country.

In November 2025, the Paris prosecutor's office began an investigation into reports that Grok was publishing materials denying the Holocaust.

On January 8, 2026, the European Commission accused the X platform of creating antisemitic and pedophilic content using the Grok neural network, as confirmed by EC representative Thomas Renier.

On January 11 and 12, Indonesia and Malaysia blocked access to Grok due to its ability to generate pornographic content. The authorities of both countries announced that the ban would remain in effect until the chatbot's moderation system was improved.

On January 13, the UK government announced its readiness to impose control over Grok if the platform did not take steps to limit the generation of sexualized images of women and children. This was stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

On January 26, the European Commission announced the start of an official investigation into the social network X and the Grok neural network from xAI. The investigation focuses on the implementation of tools in X that allow the creation of images, including pornographic ones, using artificial intelligence.

On February 3, the Paris prosecutor's office conducted searches at the offices of the social network X as part of an investigation that began in January 2025 regarding the implementation of tools for creating images, including pornographic content.

On February 4, Reuters reported that Grok continues to generate sexual content images.
