The investigation has led to summonses for both Elon Musk and his former CEO Linda Yaccarino to appear in court on April 20, according to prosecutor Laura Beccuo.
Additionally, other X employees will also be invited to testify as witnesses in court. The investigation was prompted by accusations from French lawmakers, who claim that X uses its algorithms for foreign interference and "distortion of democratic debates" in the country.
The French prosecution is also examining the work of the Grok chatbot, integrated into X, which investigators believe has contributed to the spread of Holocaust denial content and sexually explicit deepfakes.
The situation has drawn a response from Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who characterized France as a country where social networks providing "people with at least some freedom" (such as Telegram, X, TikTok) are criminally prosecuted. He emphasized: "Don't be mistaken: this is not a free country."
