The Deputy Chairman of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (MHIF), Sanjar Isaev, reported on the air of Radio "Sputnik Kyrgyzstan" that in Kyrgyzstan, in 2025, there were 1 million 165 thousand cases of inpatient treatment.

Isaev noted that these figures have remained stable over the past few years.

For comparison, in 2023, there were 1 million 95 thousand hospitalizations, and in 2024 – 1 million 167 thousand.

According to Isaev, the question of whether this is a lot or a little is not critically important for healthcare. Nevertheless, he emphasized that this indicator should decrease annually. Recent reforms in medicine are focused on developing primary care, including clinics and feldsher-obstetric points, rather than hospitals. "We have high hopes for outpatient services and are investing significant resources in infrastructure development and training," he added.

According to his statement, among the 1.1 million hospitalizations, the majority are children under 18 years old (36%) and pensioners (16%). Working citizens account for 9% of cases, farmers – 6%, and beneficiaries – 7%. Other categories make up 14% of the total number of hospitalizations.

As for the reasons for hospitalization, the leading cause in 2025 was pregnancy and childbirth (290 thousand cases), followed by respiratory diseases (120 thousand), nervous system disorders (105 thousand), cardiovascular diseases (91 thousand), and digestive system diseases (97 thousand).

Sanjar Isaev also noted that the country has abandoned the outdated Soviet practice where patients were admitted to the hospital simply for preventive drip treatment without medical indications.

“We have a classifier of services for inpatient and outpatient levels. Primary care doctors should not issue unjustified referrals for hospitalization,” he emphasized.
