Konstantin Khabensky has been appointed as the acting rector of the Moscow Art Theater School, according to information published by the publication "Meduza," based on a statement from the Minister of Culture of Russia, Olga Lyubimova.

After the tragic passing of Igor Zolotovitsky, who held the position of rector in January 2026, Konstantin Bogomolov was appointed to the responsibilities of rector. He is also the artistic director of the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya and the Roman Viktyuk Theater. However, his appointment caused dissatisfaction among graduates and students of the School, who addressed an open letter to the Minister of Culture. In response to the criticism, Bogomolov expressed the opinion that the authors of the letter "are turning the School into some kind of closed sect, where outsiders are not allowed." On February 11, he asked the minister to relieve him of his duties as rector of the Moscow Art Theater.

Additionally, Olga Lyubimova announced the appointment of Sergey Bezrukov as the artistic director of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater.

It is noteworthy that Eduard Boyakov served as the artistic director of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater from December 2018 to November 2021 and left the position at the request of the new general director of the theater, Vladimir Kekhman. According to "Interfax," Kekhman was supposed to propose a candidate for the new artistic director to the Ministry of Culture. In the summer of 2025, searches were conducted at the Moscow Art Theater, and Kekhman was charged with receiving a large bribe; however, official sources did not confirm this information. In October 2025, it became known that Elena Bulukova was appointed as the general director of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater.
