In 2025, 10,164 cases of domestic violence were recorded, which is 35% more compared to 2024.
The crisis center "Sezim" reports that official data on violence in Kyrgyzstan does not reflect the real situation.
According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 10,164 cases of domestic violence were registered in 2025, which exceeds the level of 2024 by 35%.
Moreover, over 96% of requests for help come from women.
“However, even these significant figures show only a small part of the problem. In the regions, cases of violence are recorded much less frequently than in the capital. This does not mean that there are fewer cases there — on the contrary, in such places, there is greater pressure from the family, social stigma, fear of 'shaming their own', dependence on a partner, and a lack of safe space to seek help,” the statement notes.
The crisis center emphasizes that in rural areas, women may endure violence for many years, and none of these cases make it into the statistics — due to fear, shame, or established traditions.
Experts at the center also point out that official data does not account for many hidden cases, such as threats, psychological violence, economic control, and constant humiliation, as well as pressure from relatives to "not destroy the family."
“Thus, it seems that the highest number of violence cases occurs in Bishkek. But this does not reflect reality — it is merely a difference in the willingness of women to seek help,” the center concludes.
