The new Supreme Leader of Iran has been elected by the Assembly of Experts, but his name has not yet been disclosed. This was reported by representatives of the assembly through Iranian state media.

According to available information, the selection of a successor to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was made by 88 Shia theologians who are part of the Assembly of Experts. However, the members of the assembly did not reveal the name of the new leader.

According to one of the assembly members, there is a possibility that the new leader will be Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei. This information was also confirmed by AFP, citing unnamed sources. Earlier, on March 3, anonymous sources in Iran informed the DW publication about the potential succession of Mojtaba.

In a comment regarding the voting, Assembly member Mohsen Heydari noted: "The Great Satan also mentioned the choice that was made." Presumably, he was referring to U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the possibility of Mojtaba Khamenei coming to power in an interview with Axios on March 5 and stated his intention to personally participate in the selection of the new leader.

At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed on March 8 that they will monitor the actions of anyone who takes Ali Khamenei's place as the Supreme Leader of Iran.

It should be noted that the Supreme Leader of Iran holds the position for life.
