Residents of Bishkek ask not to remove the Osh market

Numerous shoppers are concerned about the future of their usual trading place

Residents of Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, are protesting against plans to relocate the Osh market outside the city. They have sent their appeals to the editorial office, urging the authorities to keep the market in its usual location.

“How are we supposed to get there? Every day, tens of thousands of people shop at this market. Here you can find fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, sweets, as well as clothing and electronics. Everything you need is available in one place, conveniently located in the city center. Moving the market outside the city will not only affect financial costs but will also create difficulties for pensioners and people with disabilities,” local residents question.

It should be noted that a new Osh market is being built near the village of Dostuk, on the way to Manas Airport. The authorities plan to start relocating the trading place in August.

Previously, the Bishkek city hall explained the need to relocate the market due to traffic congestion, as well as the worsening environmental and crime situation in the area.
