The relocation of the Osh market, which will take place outside the village of Prigorodnoye, raises questions among drivers. What measures are the authorities taking to improve the transportation situation to the "Manas" airport?

Plan for the New Osh Market

The new Osh market will be located on an area of 155,000 square meters outside the village of Prigorodnoye, on the way to the "Manas" airport (via the Vasilievsky tract). Its construction is expected to be completed by the summer season of this year, and the relocation of traders will begin on August 1. However, the sellers themselves note that issues regarding placement at the new site have not yet been resolved, and promises regarding locations have only been given verbally. The head of the market, Kanaybek Tumanbaev, assured that the relocation process will proceed "in an organized manner and without delays." No comments have been received from the Administration so far.

Opinions of Residents

Local residents have mixed opinions regarding the market's relocation. Many express concerns that this will lead to increased travel time to the "Manas" airport. One respondent noted that traffic jams are already forming on the road to the airport during peak hours.

The authorities hope that some of the population will switch to public transport. In this regard, the expansion of Molodaya Gvardiya Street to four lanes is planned to ensure the main flow of cars from the city center, as well as the increase of the Northern bypass road to six lanes.

Additionally, a two-level interchange of the "cloverleaf" type is being constructed at the intersection of these streets.

To reduce the load on the Vasilievsky tract, the Ministry of Transport is considering the possibility of constructing a new four-lane road to the "Manas" airport, which will run from the intersection of Molodaya Gvardiya Street and the Northern bypass road. However, the start and completion dates for this project have not yet been determined.

The authorities also plan to build nearly 9 km of access roads to the new Osh market, including a bypass on Profsoyuznaya Street from Kustanayskaya Street to the traffic police post. The reconstruction of the road from the SEZ "Bishkek" to the Ala-Archa reservoir is also on the agenda, but details on these projects are currently lacking. The Ministry of Transport has not provided comments on this matter.

Currently, work is underway to expand Molodaya Gvardiya Street, the Northern bypass road, and to construct the "cloverleaf" interchange. These projects are expected to be completed by mid or late 2026; however, the timelines for the other road activities remain unknown. Thus, in the first months after the relocation of the Osh market, the flow of vehicles on the Vasilievsky tract may significantly increase.
