Over the next year, the central market of Uzgen will be completely relocated to a new area. A modern shopping complex will be built in the village of Tort-Kol on a 14-hectare plot of land, the district administration reported.

The new market will feature 4,000 trading spots, as well as a modern 5-story parking facility for the convenience of visitors.

This project is being implemented as part of a public-private partnership. According to the established conditions, the revenues from the new market will be shared between private investors and the local government. It is expected that this will allow the rural administration to move out of the category of subsidized regions due to tax revenues.

The existing market in the center of Uzgen has been causing constant traffic jams and has not generated significant income for the city budget. According to the administration, its effectiveness for the budget has proven to be extremely low.

“Considering the overall budget of Uzgen, which will amount to 169 million soms in 2025, the income from the market was only 1.5 million soms. In fact, the revenues from this large market do not even reach one percent,” the agency noted.
