A new Global Development Institute has been launched in China, reportedly aimed at supporting the country's global development initiatives as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN.

The establishment of the institute is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the government of Zhejiang Province, with active support from Zhejiang University.

At the opening ceremony, the director of the institute, Huang Xianhai, noted: "We will develop educational programs based on applied economics and public administration, providing opportunities for obtaining degrees and ensuring strategic talent support for achieving global sustainable development."

The institute has already announced the start of student enrollment, and the first group of learners will begin classes in September of this year.

As part of the educational programs, there are plans to invite high-profile officials and business leaders from around the world, as well as to develop cooperation with international organizations. In particular, the UNICEF representative in China, Amakobe Sande, expressed interest in collaborating.

She emphasized that "platforms like the Global Development Institute are capable of transforming development experience into universal knowledge and practical solutions for countries striving to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals."
