In the new annual report by the international non-governmental organization Freedom House, titled "Freedom in the World - 2026," Kyrgyzstan has once again been categorized as a non-free country.

According to the ranking, the level of freedom in the country was assessed at 25 points out of a possible 100. Political rights received 4 points out of 40, while civil liberties scored 21 points out of 60.

For comparison, Kazakhstan scored 23 points, Uzbekistan - 12, Tajikistan - 5, Armenia - 54, Russia - 12, and Belarus - 7.

Finland maintains the top position in the ranking with a maximum score of 100 points, followed by New Zealand, Norway, and Sweden, each with 99 points.

The 2026 report highlights the ongoing global trend of declining freedoms observed over the past 20 years. Authoritarian regimes are strengthening their positions and altering the international order. Experts from Freedom House call for closer coordination at the international level and a reassessment of democracy support strategies, especially against the backdrop of reduced funding for such initiatives recorded in 2025.

The authors of the report warn that the weakening of democratic leadership could lead to an increase in conflicts and instability. If international organizations continue to lose influence, authoritarian governance models will become more popular, negatively impacting the security and economic interests of democratic countries.
