In Karakol, according to information from the city hall's press service, the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant is planned to be completed in August 2026, with support from the Asian Development Bank.
The main goal of this project is to improve the environmental situation in the city, enhance the quality of urban infrastructure, and ensure safe conditions for local residents.
In the first phase of operation, the plant will have a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, which will serve approximately 75,000 people. The second phase, scheduled for 2027, will increase the capacity to 24,000 cubic meters, allowing for the connection of 150,000 people to the treatment system.
Currently, key construction works have been completed, including the installation of aeration tanks, sedimentation tanks, sand traps, and other facilities, as well as the construction of an administrative building with a laboratory.
Commissioning works are planned for May, while full project completion is expected in August.
At present, only 35-40% of facilities in Karakol are connected to the centralized sewage system. After the project is implemented, the municipal enterprise "Gorvodokanal" intends to increase this figure to 100%.
Additionally, the expansion of the sewage network by 12.7 kilometers has already been completed in Karakol, which will allow new areas of the city to be connected.
It is expected that the implementation of this project will significantly improve the sanitary conditions and environmental situation in the city.
