Some citizens were provided with apartments free of charge, while others faced huge payments.
The housing situation in Osh is actively discussed on Kyrgyzstan's social media.
Due to street expansions and the demolition of buildings, many families have been forced to leave their homes. In response, the city administration offered them apartments in new residential complexes. However, it soon became known that residents would have to pay the difference in area, based on a price of $950 per square meter. As a result, the debt ranges from 1 to 3 million soms, which the residents of Osh must now repay. The Municipal Investment Company (MIC) offers to arrange these amounts in installments for up to 10 years.
The vice-mayor of Osh, Shumkarbek Paiziev, clarified that under current regulations, the MIC does not provide free housing either for those who were forced to leave their homes or for other categories of citizens.
Nevertheless, social media users recalled that during Jenishbek Toktorbaev's tenure as mayor, apartments were distributed free of charge. It is estimated that about 100 apartments were allocated "without legal grounds" and in violation of existing municipal mortgage legislation, according to citizens' opinions.
It should also be noted that, according to the MIC, there are more than 1,000 people in line for housing in Osh.
