In one of the wealthiest areas of Caracas, the Chacao municipality, two robotic dogs named Turbo and Voltio were introduced. This is part of a new security program that started in March 2026. Mayor Gustavo Duque stated that these AI-equipped devices will patrol public spaces, including squares, primarily at night. They use high-quality cameras and motion sensors to transmit images in real-time to the local dispatch center.

According to officials, the robots are designed to detect suspicious activities, monitor license plates, and assist police during their regular patrols. However, they are not intended to replace law enforcement officers or traditional canine units.

This initiative is also noteworthy as Chacao aims to become a model for "smart" policing in Latin America. This area is one of five municipalities in the capital and is home to key financial institutions, hotels, and shopping complexes.

The launch of this system is considered by local authorities to be the first project of its kind in the region and part of a broader trend aimed at integrating police presence with surveillance technologies in urban areas, where security issues remain relevant and continue to attract public and political interest.
