After the release of the first poster for the 2026 World Cup, which did not feature Cristiano Ronaldo, FIFA found itself under public pressure. In the image representing Portugal, Bruno Fernandes was chosen instead of Ronaldo, sparking heated discussions online.

In response to the criticism, the federation removed the original poster and promptly released an updated version that included an image of Ronaldo. The new design also became vibrant due to the moment when Youssef En-Nesyri knocked Portugal out of the 2022 World Cup, along with photos of Lionel Messi with the trophy, which added even more discussions among football fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently turned 40, remains one of the most iconic figures in sports and is close to becoming the top scorer in World Cup history. Fans were puzzled by FIFA's initial decision to exclude him from the promotional materials.

This scandal arose ahead of the group stage draw scheduled for December 5. Ronaldo himself noted that the upcoming tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico might be the last of his career.
