In the match that took place on January 14 at "St. James' Park," one of the standout players was Antoine Semenyo, who opened the scoring, confirming his status as a key player in crucial matches.

Semenyo scored in the second half, taking advantage of a pass from Bernardo Silva and finishing the attack accurately. Although the forward later had the opportunity to secure a brace, his second goal was disallowed after a lengthy VAR check.

In the 99th minute, during stoppage time, Ryan Cherki doubled "City's" advantage, setting the final score.

This season, new rules were implemented in the League Cup, allowing Semenyo to play for "Manchester City," despite his earlier participation in the tournament with another club. This change caused discontent for Newcastle's head coach Eddie Howe.

Pep Guardiola, the head coach of "City," praised the newcomer’s performance, noting his ability to score and determine the outcome of important matches. Semenyo became the first player from the club since 2009 to score in his first two appearances for the team.

The return match will take place at "Etihad" in February.
