According to the latest data, the UFC is considering Max Holloway as the main contender to fight McGregor. This month, Holloway lost to Charles Oliveira by unanimous decision in a title fight for the "BMF" (Baddest Motherf***er) title. However, Oliveira is not being considered as a potential opponent for McGregor due to his passive style in the last fight, which displeased fans.
Initially, McGregor's return was planned for the "UFC Freedom 250" event, which was supposed to take place at the White House. However, due to the unprofitability of this event and the high costs associated with McGregor's participation, the UFC decided to change its plans. It is also worth noting that the organization has changed its business model, moving away from Pay-per-view broadcasts in favor of a partnership with the streaming service Paramount+.
Thus, the UFC is focusing on UFC 330, which will take place on July 11 as part of International Fight Week.
"If McGregor doesn't fight, it will be a real disaster. Right now, everything points to the fact that he will indeed participate in this tournament," Helwani noted.
McGregor himself confirmed that he has been in negotiations with the UFC and is satisfied with the results.
"Mr. Confidence is back to save the fight world! I am full of excitement and anticipation. I am making this business happen. Call your grandmas because McGregor is coming back," he stated.
Max Holloway also expressed his readiness to meet McGregor in the ring.
"We can fight in any weight class that Conor chooses. I want a rematch. It will be an interesting fight since he won't be trying to take me down," he wrote on his social media pages.
Recall that McGregor and Holloway already faced each other in the octagon in August 2013, and the Irishman won by unanimous decision.
