Ormon Khan
In times long past, there lived a famous Kyrgyz manap, Ormon, a person of strong will, very influential, who tried more than once to unite the disparate Kyrgyz tribes of northern Kyrgyzstan. He succeeded in doing this only in 1842. In the late 1840s, at one of the kurultai, according to the ancient custom of nomads, Ormon was raised on a white felt in a sign of universal respect and recognition as khan.
The rulers of the Kokand Khanate recognized the independence and strength of the united Kyrgyz tribes, but at the same time, they feared and sought to ingratiate themselves with Ormon Khan. The Kyrgyz people still had a long way to go through trials to establish relationships and live in friendship with the peoples of neighboring countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. The activities of Ormon Khan are known among the people under the name "Ormon okuu" - "Teachings of Ormon".
There are many legends among the people about the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Ormon Khan, which bewildered his enemies. In the popular memory, he forever remained a far-sighted, intelligent, and decisive leader of troops, deeply skilled in military tactics. Ormon Khan himself had his own banner, his fortress at the San tash pass, and owned countless herds. Whatever is said about the authoritative character of Ormon Khan, his role in the struggle for the creation of a state formation is undoubtedly very significant.
The names of true heroes remain for centuries.
