A third of all harmful air emissions in Kyrgyzstan come from Bishkek

According to the National Statistical Committee, in 2024, the volume of pollutants emitted by controlled stationary sources amounted to 58.3 thousand tons. This information was presented in the report "The Environment in the Kyrgyz Republic 2020-2024."

This indicator increased by 15.2% compared to 2020, which is associated with a rise in emissions of gaseous and liquid pollutants by 16.3% over the same period.

Emissions of carbon monoxide, one of the main pollutants, increased from 9.7 thousand tons in 2020 to 11.9 thousand tons in 2024, representing a 22.7% increase.

The city of Bishkek is responsible for about 35% of all pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. In 2024, the total emissions across the country amounted to 291.6 kg per square kilometer, and per capita – 8.9 kg.
