Road transport continues to be the primary means of transportation in the country, providing connectivity between regions and remote areas. In 2024, the volume of freight transportation using road transport amounted to over 54 million tons, exceeding 80% of the total transportation volume. More than 60% of this is carried out by individual entrepreneurs.
The most significant volumes of freight transportation were recorded in Bishkek (30%), the Talas region (31%), and the Chui region (17%).
As for passenger transportation, it is also primarily carried out by road transport. In 2024, buses and taxis transported 614 million people, of which 436 million (70%) used vehicles owned by individuals, while 178 million (30%) belonged to specialized companies.
Last year, the number of trips made by specialized buses and electric buses increased by 2.9 times compared to 2023.
In 2024, 337 km of roads of national and republican significance, 108 km of local roads, and 218 km of intra-village roads in rural areas were put into operation.
