At the national multilateral dialogue "Combating Transport Air Pollution in Kyrgyzstan: Towards Clean Air in Cities Year-Round," held in Bishkek, Liu Jiangping, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, emphasized the importance of combating air pollution caused by transportation. This topic holds particular significance for the international community.

The ambassador recalled the words of the President of China, Xi Jinping: "Green mountains and clear water are as valuable as gold and silver." These principles have become the foundation for China's strategy, where ecological protection is integrated into economic growth. China is implementing the concept of ecological civilization and is actively pursuing a "green transition" policy, modernizing industry and reforming transportation.

Liu Jiangping noted that significant progress has been made in raising environmental standards over the past five years. In China, 32 emission standards have been updated, and millions of tons of production capacity have been modernized in industries such as coking and cement production. More than two thousand coal boilers have been upgraded to modern low-pollution technologies.

China has also achieved success in clean energy, becoming a global leader in installed renewable energy capacity, where the share of such sources accounts for 60.8% of the total. Every third kilowatt-hour of electricity in the country is generated from renewable sources, with active development of solar and wind technologies.

Addressing transportation transformation issues, the ambassador noted that transportation remains a major source of air pollution in cities. By the end of 2024, there will be more than 31.4 million new energy vehicles in China, compared to just five million five years ago. Approximately 580 million bicycles and electric bicycles are also registered in China, accounting for up to 30% of all trips.

These measures are already yielding results. China is demonstrating significant improvements in air quality. For example, in Beijing, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 has decreased from 65 micrograms in 2020 to 30.5 micrograms in 2024, and the number of days with good air quality has increased from 181 to 290 per year.

Liu Jiangping also emphasized that China is actively participating in international environmental governance, promoting green development within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative. The country is fulfilling its commitments under the Paris Agreement and making significant contributions to the implementation of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030.

In recent years, China and Kyrgyzstan have strengthened their relations, actively working on joint projects in the field of green energy. In Kyrgyzstan, one thousand Chinese gas-powered buses have been put into operation, significantly reducing harmful emissions. Projects for the construction of wind and solar power plants are also being implemented.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of training personnel for the green economy, emphasizing the cooperation between Chinese universities and the Issyk-Kul State Technical University named after Iskhak Razakov. The Luban Workshop has been established to train specialists in hydropower.

Concluding her speech, Liu Jiangping recalled her visit to a waste incineration plant with Chinese investments in Bishkek, where she was accompanied by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, in May of this year. The plant, which is set to begin operations by the end of the year, will be able to process one thousand tons of waste per day, significantly improving the ecological situation in the city and serving as an example of successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of green development.
