In the State Nature Park "Khan-Teniri," there is an increase in the population of wild animals, particularly rare brown bears. In 2025, photographs of bears captured by camera traps were published.

According to park information, the current number of brown bears, also known as Tian Shan brown bears, has reached 20 individuals.

The Tian Shan brown bear is a rare subspecies of the brown bear (Ursus arctos), which is listed in the Red Books of several Central Asian countries and is a protected species in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Park specialists noted that bears once inhabited almost the entire territory of Kyrgyzstan. Today, their range has significantly decreased, and bears are now found only in the high mountains, where they prefer secluded areas with abundant grass and shrubs, interspersed with marshy areas and water bodies.

In July 2024, new fines were introduced in Kyrgyzstan for the shooting of animals listed in the Red Book. Now, the penalty for killing a brown bear is set at 1.5 million soms, which is significantly higher than the previous fine of 1 million soms.

The State Nature Park "Khan-Teniri" is located in the eastern part of the Issyk-Kul region, at the junction of the Kungey and Teskey Ala-Too ranges, in the basin area of the Sary-Jaz River. This area is home to the famous peaks of Pobeda (7439 m) and Khan-Teniri (6995 m).

The park includes four sections: Aydyr-Tor, Sary-Jaz, Enilchek, and Kainy, and is also divided into functional zones: a reserve zone, an ecological stabilization zone, a tourist-recreational zone, and a zone of limited economic activity.
