In Finland, an innovative solution is being implemented that uses the heat generated by data centers for heating cities. The water that is heated during the cooling of servers is fed into heating networks and then returned to the data centers in a closed loop.

A striking example of this approach is the Google data center located in Hamina. According to information from the company and local authorities, it provides heat to about two thousand residential houses for free, which accounts for up to 80% of the local heating system's needs.

Microsoft is also implementing a similar project in collaboration with energy companies in Espoo. It is expected that the heat obtained from the data centers will be able to cover up to 40% of the city's needs, which corresponds to heating approximately one hundred thousand residential units.

This model helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, and increase the energy efficiency of urban infrastructure. Finland stands out among countries actively implementing such solutions due to its developed centralized heating networks and cold climate.
