Last week, Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies, including the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, announced the launch of Operation "Midas" in the energy sector. During the investigation, a scheme related to the embezzlement of 100 million dollars was uncovered, and charges were brought against several high-ranking officials in Ukraine.
Aleksandr Abakumov, head of NABU detectives, confirmed that Kyiv intends to initiate the extradition process for Mindich. "We will do everything possible to bring him back," he noted in an interview on the YouTube channel "Ukrainian Truth".
According to Ukrainian media, Mindich left the country using an Israeli passport. After the details of his departure became known, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded the resignation of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, both of whom have already submitted their resignation letters. In addition, Zelensky imposed sanctions against Mindich.
Tatyana Shevchuk, an activist from the Center for Counteracting Corruption, commented on the situation, emphasizing that the new data confirms long-discussed suspicions in expert circles. "What was previously perceived as rumors is now beyond doubt," she added.
