Sadyr Japarov, the president of Kyrgyzstan, explained his recent remarks about the need to wait a little longer in an interview with the publication "Kabar," referring to criticism from citizens.

At the opening of the Kara-Kul Hydroelectric Power Station, the president mentioned problems in the country's energy sector and urged people to be patient for another two and a half years. However, many citizens reminded him that similar promises were made five years ago.

“In 2020, I indeed said that people should wait a bit. But it is important to note that these words were spoken during a meeting with the residents of Naryn in November 2020, when we were just starting our work. At that time, there were restrictions affecting the entire country, including the mountainous areas of Naryn, where the winter period lasts long. The introduced limit was 700 kWh.

People appealed for this limit to be lifted, as 700 kWh is consumed quickly, and exceeding it required payment of 2 soms 16 tyiyns, which created difficulties. I responded that it could be lifted, but not right now, and suggested waiting until spring. We kept our promise, and in the spring of 2021, a unified preferential tariff was introduced - 1 som per kWh without limits for 190,000 subscribers living in difficult mountainous conditions across the country, not just in Naryn.

Thus, the old norm, according to which consumption over 700 kWh required payment of 2 soms 16 tyiyns, was abolished. Since then, the tariff has gradually increased by 5-10 tyiyns and currently stands at 1 som 37 tyiyns, with no restrictions in place.

Additionally, for families in need of state support and citizens living in difficult conditions receiving the "uy bulogo komok" allowance, a tariff of 50 tyiyns per kWh is set for consumption up to 700 kWh,” the president added.
