Starting from November 17, Kyrgyzstan will begin printing banknotes in denominations of 20 and 50 soms. This announcement was made during the opening of the new building of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, an event attended by President Sadyr Japarov, which took place on October 28.

The president's press secretary, Askat Alagozov, posted a video on Facebook where Japarov clarifies when exactly Kyrgyzstan will start printing its own banknotes.

Additionally, the president inquired about plans to print other banknotes, including those up to 5,000 soms, starting from mid-2026. These intentions were confirmed by Tumanbaev and Turganbaev.

The production of currency will be carried out at the facilities of JSC "Uchkun." In the first phase, the enterprise will focus on producing small denominations to replace worn-out banknotes. It is noted that the new banknotes will meet modern standards for counterfeit protection.

Previously, Kyrgyz currency was printed abroad, mainly in European countries, using the services of international printing companies Oberthur Fiduciaire (France) and Crane Currency (USA).
