"Best Regional Banknote of the Year" is awarded for outstanding achievements in design, the use of modern security features in the context of artistic design, as well as the technological equipment and security of the banknote.

The commemorative banknote with a denomination of 2,000 som has won the prestigious international competition "Best Regional Banknote of 2018" among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, reports the press service of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The banknote was issued into circulation on November 17, 2017, and is dedicated to the quarter-century anniversary of several important events: the independence of Kyrgyzstan, the establishment of the National Bank, and the introduction of the national currency.

"The award for 'Best Regional Banknote of the Year' is given for outstanding achievements in design, the use of modern security features in the context of artistic design, as well as the technological equipment and security of the banknote. Special attention is paid to the reflection of cultural heritage, as well as the relevance of the overall design and symbolism of the issuing country," the statement says.

The highest award was also contested by banknotes from Russia with denominations of 200 and 2,000 rubles, a commemorative banknote from Armenia with a denomination of 500 dram, a commemorative banknote from Poland with a denomination of 500 zloty, and a banknote from Georgia with a denomination of 5 lari.

The competition for the best regional banknote of the year was held as part of the annual international conference on high-security printing (High Security Printing), which took place from February 19 to 21 in Warsaw. High Security Printing is the largest regional annual conference dedicated to issues of production, printing, and security features of banknotes and other securities.
