According to expert Ainura Usupbekova, the new electoral system provides real opportunities for achieving gender balance. She expressed her opinion on the air of Birinchi Radio.

Usupbekova noted that previously in Kyrgyzstan, none of the state bodies, including the Jogorku Kenesh, adhered to the norm of a 30% gender quota.

“Today we observe a significant number of women running for elections to the Jogorku Kenesh. We hoped that many of them would participate in the voting, and that the youth would be active, especially with the introduction of the remote voting system. However, unfortunately, the turnout by 5 PM was only 25%, which is quite a low figure,” the expert emphasized.

“You have a chance to balance state institutions. Make your choice and support worthy candidates, as in our opinion, the state has fulfilled all necessary conditions,” Usupbekova addressed the voters.
