According to him, the project proposed by a Chinese company has been implemented for the first time in Kyrgyzstan. It involves applying a fine-grained asphalt layer 2–3 centimeters thick on top of the existing asphalt concrete surface. Osmonaliev noted that part of the work has already been completed, and now it is expected to see how the new surface performs during the winter period. If the results are positive, the method is planned to be used on other streets in the city.
The standard practice in Bishkek includes milling the old asphalt to a depth of 10–11 centimeters, followed by the installation of two layers of new asphalt concrete. However, the new technology eliminates the need for milling: a thin layer of fine-grained asphalt concrete is laid directly on the old surface. According to Chinese specialists, this asphalt mixture contains special additives.
“If the technology proves effective after winter, we will consider its application on other sections of the capital's roads,” Osmonaliev added.
