At a meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Structure of the Jogorku Kenesh, a draft law concerning amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On the Regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh" and a draft constitutional law addressing issues related to the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums was approved. These proposals were considered in the first reading.

Among the initiators of the draft law are deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh: Marlen Mamataliyev, Talant Mamytov, Akylbek Tumonbaev, Dastanbek Jumabekov, Nurbek Sydygaliev, and Talaybek Masabirov.

As noted by deputy Nurbek Sydygaliev, the aim of these draft laws is to optimize the number and improve the procedure for forming the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums (CEC) for a higher quality and more efficient conduct of elections and referendums. It is proposed to reduce the composition of the CEC from twelve to seven members. However, during further discussion, an increase in the composition to eight members may be suggested.

During the discussion, deputy Gulnara Akimbaeva emphasized that the new composition of the CEC should eliminate situations where equal results occur during voting, as well as ensure a balance of representation and increase the transparency of the commission's work. Deputy Dastan Bekeshev pointed out the need for clear formulation of criteria and requirements for candidates for CEC membership. Additionally, deputy Kubanychbek Samakov asked CEC Chairman Tynchtyk Shainazarov whether the commission would be able to effectively conduct elections with the proposed number of members. In response, Tynchtyk Shainazarov stated that the proposed structure of the commission would contribute to increasing the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process.

The record of the draft law on reducing the composition of the CEC passed its first reading in the Jogorku Kenesh first appeared on K-News.
