As a result of the incident, 24 people were injured, eight of whom were hospitalized. Among the injured are a pregnant woman who suffered from smoke inhalation and a man who had a heart attack. The others sustained cuts, bruises, and burns. By morning, those with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital.
The force of the blast wave was such that it damaged the mayor's house, located a kilometer from the epicenter, shattering windows in nearby buildings. Some residents of the area also sustained minor injuries.
According to authorities, the particular danger was that the fire broke out in close proximity to the "Albanesi" thermal power station, which is only 150 meters from the industrial park. The station uses hydrocarbon fuel, and its ignition could have led to a serious technological disaster.
The fire affected several facilities in the industrial zone, including a tire repair shop, an agrochemical plant, a paper mill, and a plastic packaging manufacturing facility.
A representative of Sinteplast commented on the situation:
“The explosion destroyed everything. Gates, ceilings, structures, fire pipes — everything was damaged. The shock wave shook our factory, although the fire did not reach us.”
A toxic cloud formed over the incident area, and local residents were advised to wear masks, close windows, and stay indoors.
