A fire broke out at the landfill in the village of Kozhomkul in the Sokuluk district — a possible cause has been identified

A fire is believed to have been set at the landfill in the village of Kozhomkul [formerly Voenno-Antonovka].

According to the local government of Kozhomkul in the Sokuluk district, the burning of household waste at the landfill has been observed since October 18. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been started by unknown individuals.

“Since October 18, there have been recorded instances of garbage igniting at the solid waste landfill in the village of Kozhomkul. According to preliminary information, the fire may have been intentionally set by unknown persons. The local government, in collaboration with the district emergency services department, has taken measures to extinguish the fire and prevent further ignitions,” the statement reads.

As of now, the fire has been completely extinguished.
