Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has urged the population and local authorities to be prepared for a potential threat related to possible military intervention by the United States under President Donald Trump. While he believes that the use of military force is unlikely, Nielsen emphasized that it should not be ruled out, referring to statements from the American side.
At a press conference in Nuuk, the Prime Minister noted that Greenland must be ready for various developments, adding that this autonomous territory is part of NATO. He warned that any escalation of the situation could affect the entire world.
There are concerns that Trump, who has repeatedly expressed intentions for the US to acquire Greenland, may use force to achieve his goals. Meanwhile, Greenlandic authorities have already stated that the island is not interested in coming under the control of the United States.
The White House has also floated the idea of purchasing Greenland and threatened to impose tariffs against European countries that do not support American claims to this territory.
The discussion of the situation surrounding Greenland will continue at the upcoming forum in Davos.
