During his press conference, Trump noted that "everything should work out quite well in Greenland." In response to a BBC question about the potential consequences for NATO if he decides to pay for Greenland, he replied that no one has done more for the alliance than he has, adding: "NATO will be happy, and so will we," and emphasized the importance of this for global security.

However, he expressed doubt that NATO would provide the necessary assistance to the U.S. if it becomes relevant. "I know that we will help NATO, but I doubt that they will help us," the president noted.

NATO, consisting of 32 countries, was created to ensure security and protect freedoms through collective defense, as outlined in Article 5. This article states that an attack on one member will be considered an attack on all.

Earlier, Trump did not rule out the possibility of using military force to implement his plans for Greenland when NBC News asked him about it, to which he replied: "No comment."

Greenland's Minister of Industry and Natural Resources, Naaja Nathanielsen, stated in an interview with BBC Newsnight that Trump's demands surprised the local residents. "We do not want to be part of the U.S., and we have made that clear," she emphasized, adding: "What value do you place on our culture and our right to determine our future?"

On Tuesday, a conference opened in Davos, where European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for joint security in the Arctic, noting that Europe is "fully committed" to this goal. She called the additional tariffs proposed by Trump "a mistake."

Trump also announced that starting February 1, he will impose a 10% tariff on imports from eight European countries if they oppose his plans for Greenland. Von der Leyen added that the European Union supports Greenland and Denmark, emphasizing that their sovereignty "is not up for discussion."

Canadian representative Mark Carney supported this position, stating that their commitment to NATO's Article 5 is "unwavering." "We fully support Greenland and Denmark and promote their right to determine Greenland's future," he added.

Macron, for his part, expressed a preference for "respect for norms" and "the rule of law," condemning Trump for his threats. Earlier, Trump threatened to impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne after Macron rejected the proposal to join the "Peace Council" of Gaza.

The French president called the "endless accumulation of new tariffs" "fundamentally unacceptable," especially when used as pressure on the sovereignty of territories. Macron also called for retaliatory measures against American tariffs, including a mechanism known as "trade bazooka."

Sources from the international trade committee reported that the European Parliament is considering suspending the approval of a trade agreement with the U.S., which could increase tensions in relations between the two sides.

When Trump was asked about his relationships with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, he replied that he had not communicated with them since his social media post, but believes that they "generally get along well." "They treat me with respect when I'm around, but they become tougher when I'm not," Trump added.
