Dinara Otorbayeva, head of the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, addressed the public during a broadcast on "Birinchi Radio," urging them to follow precautionary measures amid the increase in cases of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza.
According to data from the past week, over 42,500 cases of ARVI and influenza have been recorded in the republic.
“With a population of 7 million people, this is not that many. More than 70 percent of those infected are children, but adults are not immune either. Often, it is they who bring viruses home from work or the street, infecting children,” noted Otorbayeva.
She also added that many citizens complain of recurrent illnesses immediately after recovery.
“Adhering to preventive measures is extremely important, but unfortunately, many people ignore them. As a result, by coming into contact with sick individuals who have similar symptoms, one can get infected with another type of virus. Without taking precautions, one can continuously expose themselves to the risk of illness, creating the impression that the disease lasts for months,” she clarified.
Otorbayeva urged the public to actively use antiseptics, wash their hands thoroughly, rinse their noses, and wear masks. “These simple rules have been forgotten after the coronavirus pandemic, but following them is necessary given the variety of respiratory infections,” emphasized the specialist.
In connection with the increase in illness, additional hospital beds and mobile clinics will be opened in Bishkek. Also, to relieve the load on the emergency department of the city children's hospital, 10 pediatricians from the primary care sector will be temporarily assigned to work in the inpatient department.
Some kindergartens are closed for quarantine, and several schools have switched to remote learning.
