Steppe Pratincole
Status: Category VIII, Data Deficient, DD. One of two species of the genus in the fauna of the Kyrgyz Republic. Monotypic species.
Distribution general and in the country. Eurasia from the lower Danube valley eastward to the upper Ob valley. To the north to Poltava, the southern part of Voronezh regions, in the Volga-Ural interfluve up to the 55th parallel, to the Kostanay region, Lake Chany, the area of Kamyshlov on the Ob. To the south to the northern coast of the Black Sea, the northern foothills of the Greater Caucasus, the northern part of Ustyurt, in the Aral Sea region up to the 45th parallel, along the Syr Darya valley upstream to Kazalinsk, to the lower reaches of Turgay, Sarysu, and the Zaysan basin. During migration, it is found throughout Kazakhstan [7, 43]. In the Kyrgyz Republic, it is encountered during migration in the valley part [35, 36].
Habitat. Prefers wetland areas.
Population. There is no systematic data on population numbers.
Life style (life cycles). Migratory species. Feeds mainly on insects.
Limiting factors. Anthropogenic impact on suitable habitats: plowing, overgrazing, shooting. Competitive relationships with the Meadow Pratincole may occur.
Breeding (keeping in captivity). Not kept in captivity in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Existing conservation measures. No special conservation measures are in place in the republic. The species is listed in the IUCN Red List in category 8 Data Deficient.
Recommended conservation measures. It is recommended to minimize the impact of human activities on habitats suitable for nesting and resting by creating mini-reserves. It is necessary to identify such habitats and the nature of the Pratincole's presence in the republic.

Status: Category VIII, Data Deficient, DD. Monotypic species. Rare migrant in the plains of Kyrgyzstan. Prefers wetlands and neighboring dry habitats. No systematic data on numbers are available. Feeds on insects; competitive relationships with Glareola pratincola (Linnaeus, 1766) are not excluded. Limiting factors include plowing up suitable habitats, overgrazing, and occasional game shooting. The species is not held in captivity in the country. There are no special protection measures undertaken either. It is necessary to develop protection measures and identify habitats where the Black-winged Pratincole may occur and even nest.
