Starting from December 12, the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev is hosting a new exhibition of applied arts titled "Uya. From Nomadic Traditions to 21st Century Modernism."

According to museum staff, the exhibition consists of two main sections.

The first section focuses on contemporary applied arts, featuring works by modern artists of the 21st century. The curator of this section is Cholpon Demut-Osmonalieva. The artists employ traditional techniques and materials that, like those of their ancestors, symbolize safety and connection. In the nomadic culture of the Kyrgyz, such a place is the yurt, and in nature, it is the nest, which serves as the starting point for this exhibition.

The second section includes decorative-applied arts from the 20th century, represented in the collection of the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev. Here, visitors can see works created using traditional techniques, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the history of decorative-applied arts in Kyrgyzstan during the 20th century. This section showcases items that were an integral part of the nomads' daily life and were used to furnish the yurt—the traditional dwelling of a nomadic family. Included are such products as shyrdaks, alakiiyzy, and chiya mats (textiles).
