Located 3–4 kilometers southwest of the village of Örükzar, among the hills of the Ak-Turpak aiyl aimak, there are dozens of underground gas wells. Gas continues to rise to the surface spontaneously from some of them.
According to local residents, the villages near the gas wells once used "blue fuel," but its use has since ceased. With the formation of underground gas sources, hydrogen sulfide sources emerge, with water flowing through ditches and reaching the settlements. Local residents note that this foul-smelling water is harmful to their health.
According to local authorities, Chinese investors previously conducted exploratory work and confirmed the presence of gas reserves underground. However, the lack of necessary licenses and financial resources to establish a suitable enterprise has led to a halt in operations.
In light of the above, local authorities emphasize the need for government attention to the underground gas wells and the necessity of determining the volumes of gas reserves.
