Taldy-Suu, a village located in the At-Bashinsky district of the Naryn region, is situated 76 km away from the administrative center of the region. Near the village flows the At-Bashi River, which often overflows its banks, causing road erosion.

Local residents claim that the correct name of the village is Talduu-Suu, however, in official documents, it is designated as Taldy-Suu.

“There is a mountain hollow in the village where willows (tal) grow. A river also flows here, and houses are located around it. Hence the name Taldy-Suu (tal — willow, suu — water). Previously, there were three merged villages in the area — Birinchi-May, Talduu-Suu, and Özgörüş. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, local residents cut down the willows, but then they stopped this practice, and the trees began to grow again. The residents engage in livestock farming, and there are sacred places in the village. Elders have told that the village was once called something else,” shared local resident Taabaldy Musaev.

Kamchybek Berturov, a social worker, added that the Taldy-Suu rural council used to include the villages of Birinchi-May, Özgörüş, and Taldy-Suu. During the administrative reform, the Bash-Kayindy rural council was created, which merged Taldy-Suu and Bash-Kayindy, designating the latter as the administrative center.

“The village emerged after the October Revolution and was initially named Shakhray in honor of the Russian revolutionary Alexander Osipovich Shakhray, who was born in St. Petersburg. He was a printer and served as the responsible secretary of the Kyrgyz regional committee of the Communist Party from 1930 to 1933. Later, the village became part of the Birinchi-May collective farm. Among the natives of Taldy-Suu is the Soviet composer and People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR Jumamüdin Sheraliyev. The three villages have schools, a health post, a library, and a kindergarten. The village is supplied with drinking water, and bridge construction is underway. Last year, a veterinary clinic was opened,” he noted.
