According to him, there is a folk legend in the village about how the Kalmyks who tried to escape froze at the pass.
“Only scientists and historians can provide reliable facts about the Kalmyks. We are just passing on the legend that has existed since ancient times. It is related to the name of our village. It is unknown who the Kalmyks were fleeing from. They crossed the pass but could not withstand the severe frosts and perished. That is why the village got its name — from the Kalmyks and the pass (in Kyrgyz - ashuu). We are located at the foot of this pass,” shares T. Ömüraliyev.
He also noted that there are only 120 households in Kalmak-Ashuu.
“The majority of the residents are engaged in livestock farming, but there are families that do not keep livestock. The socio-economic situation of the people here is average. The youth mostly leave for work abroad, as there are not enough job opportunities in the village. By the way, the famous actor Bolot Beyshenaliev is from our village.
We need a new FAP building or a major renovation of the existing one. Additionally, more than 50 children cannot attend kindergarten because there is none, and those who can take their children to neighboring villages located 15 to 29 km away,” added the village head.
He emphasized that winter in Kalmak-Ashuu lasts for six months, which creates difficult living conditions.
“In our village, there is one new school built in 2012, but we lack a stadium or a hall for cultural and sports events,” he noted.
