Our People Abroad: 18-Year-Old Sezimai Ismailova Learned a Foreign Language in a Month Thanks to One University Practice
Sezimai is the eldest of four children in her family and currently lives in the Turkish city of Denizli. She studies at the Faculty of Economics at Pamukkale University.
“Since childhood, my dream has been to study in Turkey. Starting from the 9th grade, I actively explored the opportunities for studying in this country and participated in webinars. Even in the 11th grade, when I was preparing for the ORT, I did not give up on my goal, despite my parents' resistance: I gathered the necessary documents and applied for the 'Türkiye Bursları' program. As a result, when I was accepted, my parents agreed to my studying abroad,” she shares.
Turkey offers students numerous opportunities and has a well-developed educational system. Local universities provide excellent conditions for comprehensive development.
“People here are very open, friendly, and always ready to support international students,” Sezimai added.
She noted that studying in Turkey has taught her to be more independent and responsible. In her new environment, she made friends from different countries.
“Within a month, I started speaking Turkish fluently. I realized that being abroad means representing not only yourself but also your country. Therefore, I try to show Kyrgyzstan in the best light,” says Sezimai.
“As they say: 'There are no bad nations, only bad people.' Initially, I lived in a dormitory with three Turkish girls, and this was done specifically to help international students learn the language faster. At first, it was difficult for me, but these challenges made me more patient,” she added.
In Denizli, there are other Kyrgyz students with whom Sezimai keeps in touch.
In her free time, she enjoys archery, works out at the gym, reads books, and writes poetry. She also loves to travel around Turkey and attend free courses.
“My goal for the future is to successfully complete my studies, return to Kyrgyzstan, and become a qualified economist. I want to apply the knowledge I have gained and contribute to the development of our country,” concluded Ismailova.
