Osh State University (OshSU) received a unique status as a result of the decree by President Sadyr Japarov, which granted it significant autonomy in management, finance, and educational activities.

These changes allowed the university to independently determine its structure, personnel policy, curricula, and financial aspects.

What achievements has OshSU accomplished in 2025 thanks to this new status? Let’s consider the main indicators:

What is OshSU's position in global university rankings?

2025 was a successful year for OshSU, which ranked 316th among 1,526 universities in the QS Rankings Asia 2026, as well as 22nd among 74 universities in Central Asia.

The university is actively working on implementing the "University 4.0" concept, introducing an innovative model of education-science-production-commercialization and directing its research towards solving the socio-economic problems of the region. Practices of dual education are being implemented, independent standards established, and academic and financial autonomy ensured. The model of sustainable development of the university is successfully being realized during the period from 2023 to 2026.

Programs for dual diplomas with foreign partners have expanded. In 2022, OshSU was included in the QS Sustainable Development Rankings, ranking 1251st for social impact and 1107th for governance, confirming its place in the TOP-1500.

Previously, the university was rated 4 stars according to the QS Stars system.

A key advantage of OshSU is its ability to commercialize scientific projects and attract investments in innovations. This has led to the university being recognized as an institution striving for a high global level.

What are OshSU's steps towards fourth-generation universities?

The university is successfully developing the integration of education-science-production-commercialization. A scientific center, IRCAPS, has been opened to study air pollution and its impact on health, where monitoring systems will be installed. Scientists from Tokyo will collaborate with local researchers.

Within another project, a center for early diagnosis of oncological diseases will be established in the new medical clinic of OshSU, offering new educational programs in oncology and radiology. Modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and bioinformatics are being applied, and databases are being created.

Currently, the Satellite Analysis Center, the Innovation Center for Critical Minerals of Central Asia, and the Consulting Center for "green" innovations are actively operating.

2025: 351 articles published in SCOPUS

Among the leading scholars of Kyrgyzstan, more than 10% work at OshSU. Let’s provide some figures.

OshSU ranks among the leaders in the country in terms of the number of faculty members with academic degrees. In 2025, 5 doctoral and 39 candidate dissertations were defended, increasing the total number of candidates of sciences and doctors to 600.

This year, 351 articles were published in scientific journals indexed in the Scopus database, which is six times more compared to 2021, when their number was 857.

OshSU scientists rank 4th in the country in terms of scientific publications, with their works published in prestigious international journals Q1, Q2, and Q3. The impact factor of the "Bulletin of OshSU" continues to grow, and scientific achievements are gaining recognition at the global level.

The university pays attention to research aimed at solving socio-economic problems, having implemented projects worth 51 million soms over the past five years thanks to internal grants. In the 2025-2026 academic year, 30 innovative projects were launched, of which 3 are national and 8 are international. OshSU actively integrates production and research projects according to the 4.0 model, having concluded 8 agreements.

2025: 84 unique operations performed in the medical clinic

Kidney transplants, heart stent placements, and closure of congenital defects are all unique procedures carried out in the university's medical clinic this year.

2025 was a breakthrough year in transplantation for the clinic. Doctors, together with Russian specialists, performed two kidney transplant surgeries, and in November, a successful liver transplant operation was conducted.

This year, a pacemaker was implanted for the first time. Endovascular surgeries were performed on 82 patients, and 6,000 people received outpatient treatment. A total of 6,685 staff and students underwent medical examinations, including 1,800 students. More than 2,000 patients were treated in the therapeutic department, and 105 people received assistance in the intensive care unit. In total, 110 operations were performed in the clinic, including 20 cardiovascular surgeries.

As part of the "Health Caravan" project, clinic doctors provided free medical services to about a thousand rural residents each month.

According to the decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, a modern 7-story clinic is being built on the site of the old city hospital. The construction is expected to be completed in 2026, and the area of the new campus will be 2 hectares. It will house 9 departments and 6 research centers. The opening of the clinic is expected to help stop the outflow of doctors.

Osh State University is becoming a new center for experimental, scientific, and clinical medicine in the southern region of the country.

More than 100 OshSU students are studying under the dual diploma program

In 2025, the university developed and implemented successful dual diploma programs, actively collaborating with universities in Russia, Kazakhstan, and China across 22 specialties.

Currently, OshSU has more than 20 dual diploma programs, with over 100 students enrolled. Students have the opportunity to spend two years at our university and two years at a partner university, obtaining two diplomas. These programs began to expand in 2018.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, the number of foreign students arriving under these and exchange programs exceeded 10,000, with the majority from Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, and Russia. The process of internationalization began in 2018.

Agreements on joint educational programs have been signed with leading universities in Russia, Kazakhstan, and China across 32 specialties, of which 22 are actively implemented. 12 of our master's students studied at Belgorod and Tomsk universities, as well as at the Russian University of Friendship of Peoples, receiving two diplomas. In the 2024-2025 academic year, 41 teachers from the USA, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Korea, Japan, China, and other countries came to work at OshSU.

The OshSU Business Park attracted investments of over 3 million soms

A business park operates on the territory of OshSU, serving as a platform for the development of student startups. In 2025, support was provided to 21 startup teams. The G-Face and ZN Inclusive projects received grants totaling 851,000 soms. Over the year, 602 students underwent training, and 51 startups are successfully operating, creating 89 jobs.

In 2025, 14 new startups were launched, attracting 3,265,950 soms in investments and grants, creating 23 new jobs.

Currently, the total volume of investments attracted by the business park exceeds 16.5 million soms.

Osh State University is the cradle of student startups.

More than 1,000 OshSU students have studied at leading foreign universities under academic mobility programs.

In 2025, the university significantly expanded its international connections. Over the past five years, more than 800 foreign students and teachers have studied with us, and over 1,200 of our students have undergone academic mobility training at renowned educational institutions worldwide.

The university also actively promotes the Kyrgyz language and culture. Cultural and educational centers have been opened at the Eurasian National University named after Gumilyov in Kazakhstan and the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after A. Navoi. Additionally, Kazakh language and culture centers at ENU and Uzbek language and culture centers at TashGU operate under OshSU.

Currently, OshSU has opened a center named after Lomonosov of Moscow State University.

Osh State University has become the coordinator of the SCO in Kyrgyzstan.

Furthermore, our university has taken the chairmanship of the Coordination Council of the Eurasian Network University, which confirms the growing trust of international organizations in our educational institution. In 2026, OshSU will chair these international structures.

Thus, 2025 became a time when OshSU strengthened its global partnerships, expanded cultural ties, and took a worthy place on the international stage.

2025: OshSU won gold at the World Championship

2025 was also a successful year for the university in sports. At the U-20 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship in Bulgaria, OshSU student Zhantoro Mirzaliev won a gold medal, becoming the sixth world champion in the history of Kyrgyzstan.

Freestyle student Oskonbay Abdisamatov won a silver medal at the 2025 Champions Cup. Additionally, OshSU students are showing high results at world and Asian championships, as well as at international competitions.

The OshSU football club ranked 6th in the Premier League of Kyrgyzstan and received a Foton bus as a reward. The university team temporarily received the new "Manas" stadium in Kara-Suu.

The volleyball team "University-OshSU" became the champion of the Higher League, while the women's team took second place in the National League and won the President's Cup of the Volleyball Federation.

The basketball club "BK University OshMU" ranked third in the national championship.

At the Kyrgyzstan Universiade, OshSU placed fourth in the overall standings and won prizes in ten sports. Among the staff, the university also took first place at the "Den Soooluk" sports festival.

2025: What successes have our students achieved?

This year, nine OshSU students received the presidential scholarship, the most prestigious award for students in Kyrgyzstan. Ten students were awarded the "Atuuldik" named scholarship, akin to the Nobel Prize, which amounts to 12,000 soms per month for a year. As a result of the AVN program, "TOP-20 students of OshSU" were selected, each receiving 10,000 soms and valuable gifts.

This year, a named scholarship was established in honor of Professor Kanibek Isakov, and 10 students received one-time payments of 10,000 soms.

OshSU students have also achieved success in olympiads and competitions; in 2025, about 100 students participated in the XII regional olympiad, and half of them became winners.

Additionally, first-year students underwent free medical examinations at the clinic, which is one of the opportunities provided by the university and expanding every year.

2025: What digital platforms have been launched?

The university has developed and implemented a comprehensive roadmap for the digitalization of information and education for 2024–2029.

Based on this roadmap, an automated information system MyEDU has been created, allowing students to form individual learning trajectories.

A digital educational portal for distance learning mooc.oshsu.kg is also operational, offering online resources for undergraduate and graduate students. To enhance the quality of distance learning, a video studio was opened, where approximately 300 video lessons were prepared over the year.

To ensure transparency in academic services, the process of obtaining certificates has been fully automated and transferred to the platform next.oshsu.kg, which is an important step for student convenience and reduces the risk of corruption in the university.

Osh State University is entering a new era of digital education.

Construction and expansion of infrastructure: a kindergarten for 100 places, a 7-story clinic

In 2025, the "Yyman" lyceum was completely renovated and put back into operation, and a kindergarten for 100 places was modernized. Currently, a 7-story medical clinic is under construction at 157 Kurmanjan Datka Street. A 2-story practical training center is being built on the territory of vocational school No. 12, and a 9-story dormitory is under construction on the OshSU land at 5 Monuev Street.

This year, all educational buildings were renovated, classrooms, assembly halls, and conference rooms were updated. The university's furniture workshop produced new furniture, cabinets, tables, and chairs.

Today, OshSU has the largest infrastructure in the country, including 32 educational buildings, 2 medical clinics, 10 student dormitories, and 2 faculty dormitories, modern sports complexes, the Congress Resort OshSU on the banks of Ak-Buura, and a resort on Issyk-Kul.
