Nazarbayev University allocates 200 grants for doctoral studies

Focus — on physics, engineering, computer science, and medicine


On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, Nazarbayev University has announced the allocation of 200 full grants for PhD programs, nearly doubling the number of grants offered in previous years. These funds are provided by both the university and the NU Impact Foundation.

The President of NU, Professor Vakhar Ahmad, noted: “The university has earned a reputation for the quality training of its graduate students. The presence of top-notch faculty and modern research resources allows us to create conditions for unlocking the academic potential of talented students. The increase in doctoral grants underscores our commitment to cutting-edge scientific research aimed at addressing pressing issues at both national and regional levels, as well as developing the scientific potential of Kazakhstan.”

Additional doctoral grants will be provided across all fields, with a focus on physics, computer science, engineering, and medicine.

As Dr. Luis R. Rojas-Solorzano, Associate Provost for Graduate Programs at NU, stated, “Our goals are to increase the number of doctoral students and participants in professional doctoral programs to over 1000. In the coming years, we will continue to expand enrollment in doctoral programs and establish a new academic unit — the Institute of Doctoral Studies.”

Nazarbayev University ranks 106th in the world ranking of young universities and is recognized as the best research university in Central Asia and the Caucasus according to the authoritative international ranking Times Higher Education, placing it in the top 23% of the best universities in the world.
