The first liver transplant operation in the region took place at the Osh State University Medical Center, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

Acting Minister of Health Kanibek Dosmambetov attended the event, where he reviewed the results of the operation. He also held a discussion with the medical staff and received information about the health status of both the donor and the recipient after the procedure. According to the doctors, both patients are under careful observation, and their condition is stable.

Dosmambetov emphasized that this is the first operation of its kind conducted in the southern part of the country.

The recipient was a 50-year-old woman suffering from viral hepatitis B, C, and D for eight years, which led to the development of liver cirrhosis. The donor was her 25-year-old son. The operation lasted more than six hours.

The surgical procedure was performed by the head of the liver transplant department of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine, Doctor of Medical Sciences Murad Navruzbekov, along with the team from the Osh State University Medical Center.

Kanibek Dosmambetov reported that President Sadyr Japarov is focusing on the development of organ transplantation and has given instructions to improve this area.

“Transplantology is viewed as a key measure to enhance the accessibility of high-tech medical care and improve the quality of life for patients. It is important that our citizens receive qualified assistance on their native soil, without the need to go abroad,” noted Dosmambetov.

Additionally, the acting minister pointed out that the Osh State University Medical Center demonstrates a successful management model, including modern equipment, qualified personnel, and transparent financial processes. Conditions have been created under which doctors and medical staff receive fair compensation, and financial flows are under control. This, according to him, minimizes corruption risks in healthcare.

“When medical services are provided at official rates, the funds go to the institution rather than disappearing into the shadows. This allows for at least 50% of the income to be directed towards increasing salaries for doctors and medical personnel, as well as for the development of the organization itself. This approach significantly reduces manifestations of corruption and creates a sustainable motivation system,” he added.

Dosmambetov also announced that by a presidential decree signed this year, a pilot project will start in the country on January 1, 2026, which will grant autonomy to several medical organizations. Within this project, about 20 institutions will receive expanded managerial and financial powers.

The management model implemented at the Osh State University Medical Center can be applied in this project. If the pilot proves effective, this approach may be extended throughout the republic.

The leadership of the Osh State University Medical Center confirmed that the institution will continue to develop the field of liver transplantation and other types of high-tech assistance, following clinical protocols and biosafety requirements established in Kyrgyzstan.
