At the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the implementation of a new immunological testing methodology for kidney transplantation has begun.

According to information provided by the press service of the Ministry of Health, this immunological analysis aims to determine histocompatibility between the donor and recipient using the HLA system (human leukocyte antigens). As part of this process, crossmatching is also conducted to identify antibodies that may react with the cells of a specific donor, and the PRA indicator is calculated, reflecting the level of patient sensitization.

“These tests are crucial in modern transplantation; they help select an appropriate donor, predict the risk of rejection, and adjust immunosuppressive therapy. This, in turn, leads to a reduction in the frequency of acute and chronic rejections and extends the functioning period of the transplanted kidney,” the Ministry of Health noted.

The establishment of a genetic testing system is of strategic importance for national healthcare. In the future, this will form the basis for creating a transplantation safety system, reduce dependence on foreign laboratories, accelerate the clinical decision-making process, and increase citizens' trust in local medicine, in line with international quality standards,” the ministry added.

Additionally, the 36th budget operation for kidney transplantation has been successfully completed at the NCMMC. The recipient was S.Z., born in 2009, who had been on chronic hemodialysis since June 2025. The donor was her mother, E.B., born in 1984. The operation was successful, and the condition of both patients is assessed as stable.

Currently, HLA testing between the donor and recipient has been conducted in the NCMMC laboratory, and the results fully matched the data from the reference laboratory, confirming the high level of quality and reliability of the conducted research.

“Experts from the center emphasize that this project will be a significant step in the development of modern transplantation in Kyrgyzstan and will be implemented on a systematic and long-term basis,” the Ministry of Health concluded.
