At the National Center for Maternal and Child Care, a new method of immunological testing has been implemented to improve kidney transplant outcomes, as reported by the institution itself.

This test allows for the assessment of histocompatibility between the donor and recipient based on the HLA system (human leukocyte antigens). It also includes cross-matching, which identifies antibodies that interact with the specific donor's cells, as well as determining the PRA level, which indicates the patient's sensitization level.

This method provides an individualized approach to donor selection, helps in predicting the risk of organ rejection, and allows for the adjustment of immunosuppressive therapy. As a result, the likelihood of acute and chronic rejections is reduced, contributing to an increased duration of functioning of the transplanted kidney.

Recently, the center performed its 36th kidney transplant operation funded by the state budget. The recipient was S.Z., born in 2009, who had been on chronic hemodialysis since June 2025. Her donor was her mother E.B., born in 1984. The condition of both patients after the operation is stable.
