A study was conducted in Kyrgyzstan focusing on the epidemiological aspects of COVID-19 infection among medical workers, the results of which were published in the journal "Healthcare of Kyrgyzstan."

Within the framework of the study, data from the period 2020 to 2023 were analyzed, and a survey was conducted among medical personnel.

According to the obtained data, during peak months, the infection rate among medical workers exceeded similar indicators among the general population by 4 to 13 times. The study recorded four epidemic waves among healthcare workers, with the highest number of cases registered in July 2020. The most vulnerable group was nurses, who were in constant close contact with patients.

During the study, the main risk factors were identified:

• Lack of respiratory personal protective equipment — the use of KN95 masks, which did not provide sufficient protection (FIT test showed 0%);

• Non-compliance with PPE replacement norms (39% of respondents did not change respirators); presence of comorbidities (OR = 2.3);

• Living with infected colleagues in dormitories (OR = 2.9).

The results of the study emphasize the importance of a systematic approach to protecting medical personnel, which includes not only timely and quality provision of personal protective equipment but also strict adherence to infection control protocols. In conclusion, it is emphasized that "these measures are critically important for reducing professional risks and preventing nosocomial transmission of COVID-19 in the future."
