Immunologist Nazira Minazarova, working in the department for the At-Bashinsky district of the Naryn inter-district center for disease prevention and sanitary-epidemiological surveillance, shared relevant information about measles.

Since the beginning of 2023, a stable number of measles cases has been observed throughout the republic, including our district.

According to data from the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, in the first 9 months of 2025, the country registered 9,312 cases of measles and rubella, of which 8,949 are measles.

In the Naryn region itself, 175 cases have been identified, of which 24 cases pertain to the At-Bashinsky district. Among the infected, 9 children were too young for vaccination, and 14 were unvaccinated for various reasons.

Some citizens refuse vaccination or neglect it for religious reasons, which leads to an increased risk of the spread of measles and other infectious diseases. To combat this situation, specialists from the Naryn inter-district center for disease prevention conduct informational campaigns among school and kindergarten staff, explaining the importance of vaccination and preventive measures.

Measles is an acute viral disease with high contagiousness, the source of which is only an infected person.

People who are unvaccinated and have not had measles before become infected almost 100% of the time upon contact with an infected person, regardless of age.

The disease is transmitted through airborne droplets — during coughing, sneezing, talking, and close contact with the sick. The disease spreads rapidly and can cause outbreaks in educational institutions.

Symptoms of measles appear 7-14 days after infection and begin with signs similar to a cold or flu:

- temperature up to 38-40 °C,

- general weakness,

- loss of appetite,

- nasal congestion,

- dry cough,

- redness of the eyes and tearing.

Later, characteristic rashes appear on the face and neck, which then spread throughout the body.

Vaccination remains the most reliable and effective method of measles prevention.

Children are vaccinated according to the KR vaccination schedule at the ages of 12 months and 2 years.

Vaccination can be done at any medical institution at the place of residence.
